Where Martha
Stands.

Marti supports policies that strengthen public safety, keep costs down for families and businesses, promote economic growth, and respect the needs of working people. She offers a steady hand and the practical leadership that has been missing from our communities.

Martha's Key Ideas

Deliver a rebate check to every resident who pays a utility bill
Exempt seniors 65 and older from property taxes
Reform insurance laws to lower premiums
Fight for upstate families to receive their fair share of childcare funding
01

Costs Are High and Rising

The State budget has grown from approximately $173 billion to a proposed $260 billion for FY 2027—an increase of nearly 50%. Residents are right to question whether this massive spending growth has improved daily life.

State tax collections grew by 47% in the 2021–2022 fiscal year.
The combined state and local tax burden increased from $327 to $372 per $1,000 of personal income.
In 2024 alone, 415,000 people left the state.
Cornell University projects New York may lose more than 2 million people over the next 25 years.

Marti's plan proposes targeted tax relief, including personal income tax reductions and a three-year property tax freeze, to help residents keep more of their earnings and support stable, affordable lives in the 46th District.

02

Public Safety

Public safety remains one of the most urgent concerns for families across the district. Marti will work to reverse policies that have weakened community safety and made neighborhoods less secure.

Albany County ranked fifth highest in New York for violent crime in 2023.
Schenectady's overall crime rate is more than double the national average.
Montgomery County maintains stable crime rates through strong local leadership.

Marti will advocate balanced bail policies, repeal of the HALT Act, reform of Raise the Age for violent youth offenses, and stronger prevention, treatment, and recovery programs to address the opioid crisis.

03

Transparent Governance

Decades of one-party rule have allowed state government to operate with limited transparency, concentrating major decisions in the hands of a few and leaving taxpayers in the dark.

More than $4 billion in state spending has bypassed normal checks and safeguards.
State leaders have written exemptions into the budget allowing contracts to move without independent review.
The Comptroller has been stripped of the ability to examine major contracts before taxpayer money is spent.

Marti believes no contract should be approved without an independent set of eyes making sure the spending is legal, responsible, and in the best interests of taxpayers. She will fight to end backroom exemptions.

04

State Budget Concerns

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli warns that the proposed $260 billion Executive Budget relies on potentially short-lived economic conditions, even as long-term structural deficits continue to grow.

Projected gap of $6 billion in 2028.
Projected gap of $9 billion in 2029.
Projected gap of $12.5 billion in 2030.
Rising Medicaid costs are the state's largest and fastest-growing spending category.

New York must take responsibility for its financial future by improving oversight, controlling costs, and adopting sustainable budgeting practices. Without meaningful reforms, these challenges will fall directly on taxpayers.

05

Healthcare Reform

New York spends more than $300 billion annually on healthcare—one of the highest totals in the nation—yet outcomes remain only average. Families continue to face high premiums, limited options, and complex regulations.

Marti's healthcare plan focuses on reducing red tape, increasing competition, improving cost transparency, easing enrollment in private insurance, and expanding the use of health savings accounts.

06

Lower Energy Bills

Energy costs are rising quickly, and many families struggle to keep up with heating and utility bills. Concerns about the reliability and affordability of New York's current climate agenda continue to grow.

Marti supports maintaining energy choice, encouraging diverse energy production, and ensuring that climate policies do not saddle residents with unsustainable costs. Families deserve reliable, affordable energy.

How Martha Will Get It Done

A steady, thoughtful approach to governing—relying on facts, experience, and careful judgment.

Whether working with members of her own party or across the aisle, Marti puts results ahead of rhetoric and believes good government starts with putting people first. Albany, Montgomery, and Schenectady Counties deserve a representative who prioritizes real community needs—not soundbites or empty promises.

Working together means honest debate, public participation, and real collaboration—not backroom deals.

Stand with Martha on the issues that matter.
